Artistic Line Producer

The New Group, one of New York’s leading Off-Broadway theaters, is seeking an Artistic Line Producer.  The New Group is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater. In addition to producing three to four annual productions, an annual gala, and other special events, the organization’s New Group/New Works play and musical development program champions original works by emerging and established authors. The New Group also operates a variety of theater education programs that provide opportunities for artistically inclined middle and high school, college, and adult students. The New Group Off Stage celebrates work at the intersection of art, multimedia, and social engagement by showcasing some of today’s most compelling storytellers through web series, feature films, audio plays and more.

Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Artistic Line Producer is responsible for facilitating creative management of The New Group’s productions, and acting as a primary point of contact for the creative and production teams.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Support pre-production planning and hiring of creative personnel, including developing lists of ideal designers and other creative personnel, for all productions.
  • Liaise with casting director in the casting process, from scheduling of EPAs to casting of replacements and understudies, if required.
  • Work with General Manager, Production Manager, and creative teams to schedule design meetings at the start of each production’s process.
  • Collaborate with General Manager and Production Manager throughout the design and bid process with an eye towards both budget and the artistic vision of the playwright and director.
  • Actively communicate with all internal departments as necessary about developments in the production and act as a liaison between artists and departments.
  • Facilitate artistic relationships with respect to participation in Marketing and Development events and activities, and assist with coordinating.
  • Communicate with artistic leadership regarding production needs and issues as they arise during the rehearsal, preview, and performance periods.
  • Attend production meetings, some rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and preview performances on behalf of the Artistic Department to support the production’s progress.
  • Coordinate proofreading and editing of marketing collateral, including programs and press releases, on behalf of the Artistic Department.
  • Produce developmental readings.
  • Collaborate with artistic department on artistic planning efforts including season planning and developmental activities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to ensure a smooth production process.

  • The ability to collaborate with a team to make recommendations to leadership to get ahead of any issues that may arise
  • Direct or transferable experience in producing at a professional theater

This is a full-time exempt position with a salary of $58,500. Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, 403b retirement, and commuter benefit plans.
