Cat Rodríguez

Cat Rodríguez (she/ella) is a multihyphenate performance maker, scholar-artist, and founding member of Fake Friends. Cat works across media with a creative practice that spans directing, performing, dramaturging, and translating (Spanish/English). A "people person" with a politic and a love for the Ridiculous, she’s all about bringing critical rigor, playfulness, specificity, and laughter to process. With Michael Breslin, Cat is co-author of a chapter on Fornés and feminism in the forthcoming Fornés in Context (Cambridge University Press); the pair is currently developing their tragicomic and postmodern adaptation of Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, set in the queer world of female bikini bodybuilding competitions. As an educator, she has taught courses on contemporary playwriting, performance theory, dramaturgy, and the theatrical legacies of María Irene Fornés to undergraduate and graduate students at Sarah Lawrence College, Carnegie Mellon University, and Catholic University of America. Co-foundress, Fake Friends (Circle Jerk: Obie Award, 2022; Finalist, Pulitzer Prize in Drama, 2021). 2022 Latine Fellow, Sundance Institute. 2021-22 Art of Practice Fellow + Community Leader, Sundance Interdisciplinary Program. www.catlikemeow.com
