General Manager

The New Group, one of New York’s leading Off-Broadway theaters, is seeking a GENERAL MANAGER. The New Group is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater. In addition to producing four annual productions, the organization’s New Group/New Works play and musical development program champions original works by emerging and established authors. The New Group also operates a variety of theater education programs that provide opportunities for artistically inclined middle and high school, college, and adult students.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the General Manager is responsible for overall production supervision and administration. The General Manager will work closely with the Artistic Director and will interface with all departments within the organization. The General Manager will directly supervise the Company Manager, Production Manager, and Resident Stage Manager.

Responsibilities include:
-Provide on-site supervision and oversight for main stage productions, developmental readings, and production related functions for fundraising events
-Create and monitor production and developmental reading budgets
-Prepare, coordinate, and maintain season calendars and approve production schedules and activity
-Supervise company management functions including artist services and company and house seat ticketing requests
-Lead contract negotiations for authors, all other artistic and technical personnel and any outside producers/partners
-Maintain relationships with theatrical unions (AEA, SDC, USA, AFM/802)
-Represent The New Group in collective bargaining negotiations with theatrical unions (Off-Broadway)
-Ensure compliance with rehearsal and theatrical rental licenses and communicate with venue owners

The ideal candidate will want to play an integral role as a producing leader in a time of artistic advancement, and have the following: strong leadership skills to represent the institution both internally and externally; experience in managing staff and developing meaningful relationships with artistic personnel; exceptional written/verbal communication and negotiating skills; rigorous budgeting experience; proactive planning and problem solving skills and tenacious follow through; and be extremely organized and detail oriented. Experience (5 years+) working in theatrical management is required, including direct experience with union regulations, and contract negotiations.

Salary range is $70,000–90,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, 403b retirement, and commuter benefit plans.

Box Office Associate

Position Responsibilities:
-Process phone orders for subscription sales, subscriber booking and exchanges as well as single ticket sales in Spektrix
-Provide support for customers purchasing online
-Have knowledge of The New Group’s productions, subscription packages and programs
-Field questions regarding the season, subscription packages and single ticket inquiries
-Assist with sales for special events and benefits sold through Spektrix
-Help keep and maintain up-to-date and accurate customer data in Spektrix
When in performances:
-Print and prepare tickets
-Manage in-person sales at the theater box office
-Run and distribute post-performance reports
